Art Like Me

What happens when art becomes a doorway to the sacred?

Art Like Me has been answering that question for years—empowering Black and Brown men and boys to cultivate emotional intelligence, self-worth, and a deep sense of belonging through creative expression.

Founded by Dr. Teddy RaShaan Reeves, Chief Curator and Senior Curator of Religion at the Smithsonian National Museum of African American History and Culture, Art Like Me distributes visual art prints that affirm positive self-image and nurture cultural pride. Through its flagship ALM Visual Representation Project, the organization creates spaces where identity, healing, and creativity intersect.

Now, through a partnership with the Missing Voices Project, Art Like Me brings that same transformative energy into youth ministry. This creative resource—featuring a printed and digital guide—invites young people to explore religion and Christian spirituality through art. Four oral history videos from contributing artists offer stories and insights for youth and leaders serving at the margins, centering the lived experiences of those whose voices have too often gone unheard.

Designed to support spiritual formation through artistic expression, this resource reminds us that the sacred shows up in brushstrokes and color, in story and imagination—and that young people at the margins have always known this.
