Art Like ME Curriculum Resource Guide
What happens when young people encounter art that reflects their own image—and a faith that sets them free?
The Art Like ME Curriculum Resource Guide is a four-week Sunday School and youth group curriculum designed for middle and high school students. Grounded in John 8:36—"So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed"—this guide invites young people to explore freedom, love, justice, and commitment through the work of Black and Brown male visual artists.
Each week, students engage with scripture, encounter powerful artwork from the Art Like ME collection, and develop their own creative responses. The curriculum culminates in "Free Indeed," a student-led art exhibition mounted at your church or community space—a tangible celebration of what it looks like when young people see themselves as creators, storytellers, and agents of cultural transformation.
Created by Art Like ME Inc., founded by dr. teddy raShaan (Senior Curator of Religion at the Smithsonian National Museum of African American History & Culture), this resource was made possible through the generous support of Flagler College's Center for Religion and Culture, funded by the Lilly Endowment Inc.
